This condition is called anosognosia, most often seen after right-hemisphere strokes.
Patients may be completely paralyzed on one side yet insist they can stand, walk, or raise an arm—even while watching themselves fail.

Why it’s rare:
It’s not denial or confusion. The brain’s self-awareness circuitry itself is damaged, meaning the mind literally cannot perceive the disability.
