Despite comprising only about 40% of our body weight on average, human muscles possess remarkable strength. Skeletal muscles, which are attached to bones by tendons, allow us to perform tasks ranging from delicate movements like writing to powerful actions like lifting heavy weights. The strongest muscle in the human body, relative to its size, is the masseter, located in the jaw. It can generate a force equivalent to over 200 pounds (90 kilograms) of pressure to facilitate biting and chewing.
