A rare disorder called Cold Urticaria causes the body to react to cold air, cold water, or even cold objects as if they were allergens. Exposure can trigger itchy hives, swelling, and in severe cases, dangerous reactions affecting breathing and blood pressure. Some people with this condition must be especially careful around swimming pools, cold weather, and even chilled drinks.
