Many people associate liver disease with jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), but certain liver disorders can first appear as severe itching. Conditions such as Primary Biliary Cholangitis and other bile duct disorders can cause bile acids to build up in the bloodstream, triggering persistent itching that may occur months or even years before more obvious liver symptoms develop.
