The CDC reported that the leading cause of death in the United States is heart disease. There are plenty of ways to lower heart disease risk. This method will cut heart disease risk in half if it is done properly.
Several studies in recent years have shown that plant-centered diets and significantly lower heart disease risk over time. One particular study noted that participants who started a plant-centered diets cut their heart disease risk by over 50%. One great plant centered diet is the “Portfolio Diet”.
This diet consists of nuts; plant protein from soy, beans or tofu; viscous soluble fiber from oats, barley, okra, eggplant, oranges, apples, and berries; plant sterols from enriched foods and monounsaturated fats found in olive and canola oil and avocados; along with limited consumption of saturated fats and dietary cholesterol. This diet is well known for lowering bad cholesterol along with lowering heart disease risk. A study found that those who followed this diet in the study were more likely to decrease heart disease risk.
The “Portfolio Diet” is a great way for anyone to decrease heart disease risk and lead a healthier lifestyle.
