Did You Know!
The endocrine system works in close coordination with the nervous system to maintain homeostasis, or the body’s internal balance. Hormone secretion is finely regulated through a complex feedback system, where hormone levels are constantly monitored and adjusted based on the body’s needs. For example, when blood sugar levels rise after a meal, the pancreas releases insulin to help cells absorb glucose and lower blood sugar levels. If blood sugar levels drop too low, the pancreas releases glucagon to stimulate the release of stored glucose into the bloodstream. This delicate balance of hormones ensures that the body functions properly under various conditions.
