Foreign accent syndrome (FAS) is a rare neurological disorder in which individuals start speaking their native language with a foreign accent, often following a brain injury or stroke. This condition can be incredibly distressing for those affected, as it may lead to communication difficulties, social stigma, and emotional distress. FAS is believed to result from disruptions in the brain’s speech production centers, leading to alterations in the timing, coordination, and intonation patterns of speech.
