🩸 The Spleen Can Store and Release a Hidden “Blood Reserve”

Your spleen acts like a biological blood bank. It can store up to 250 milliliters (about half a pint) of blood at any given time.

When your body experiences sudden blood loss or intense physical stress (like during a fight-or-flight moment), the spleen contracts and releases that extra blood into circulation — instantly boosting your oxygen levels and energy.

⚡ This same mechanism is why some freedivers can hold their breath longer — the “spleen contraction” gives them a secret oxygen advantage.
