Some Tumors Grow… Teeth and Hair 😳

A rare type of tumor called a teratoma can contain fully formed teeth, hair, and even bone. These unusual growths develop from germ cells — the same cells that form sperm and eggs — which have the potential to turn into many different tissue types.

Teratomas are most commonly found in the ovaries or testes, and while they sound alarming, many are actually benign and treatable with surgery. Still, the idea that a tumor can grow recognizable body parts surprises even seasoned medical professionals.
