Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), also known as stool transplant, is a medical procedure where fecal matter from a healthy donor is transferred into the gastrointestinal tract of a recipient. It is primarily used to treat Clostridium difficile infection, a severe bacterial infection that causes inflammation of the colon. FMT has shown remarkable success rates, often exceeding 90%, in resolving recurrent C. difficile infections when standard treatments fail.
