Some Cancers Can Be Contagious—But Not in Humans (Usually)

There are a few known contagious cancers in nature, such as one in Tasmanian devils. But in extremely rare cases, organ transplant recipients have developed cancer from donor cells. These cancers can behave like an infectious disease because the immune system doesn’t recognize the foreign cells as threats—especially if the patient is on immunosuppressants.
