Did You Know!
You Have Microscopic “Teeth” in Your Intestines
Your small intestine is lined with millions of tiny finger-like structures called villi, and each villus is covered in even smaller structures called microvilli.
Under a microscope, they look like a dense field of tiny teeth — sometimes called the brush border.
If you stretched out all those folds, villi, and microvilli, your small intestine would have a surface area close to that of a tennis court.
You’re basically digesting food across a microscopic shag carpet.
