Who would have thought?

In a newly released scientific study it has now been discovered that hypertension (high blood pressure) has doubled in the last 30 years.

According to Medical News Today, in an experiment carried out in 184 countries between 1990 and 2019 researchers found the cases of hypertension had doubled!

“Nearly half a century after we started treating hypertension, which is easy to diagnose and treat with low cost medicines, it is a public health failure that so many of the people with high blood pressure in the world are still not getting the treatment they need,” says Prof. Majid Ezzati, Ph.D.

Currently, that means 1.3 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension. It was discovered that lifestyle decisions such as smoking cigarettes and eating unhealthy diets contributed to the disease.

“Prevention is crucial — making fruits and vegetables accessible and affordable, lowering salt, [and] tobacco control,” Ezzati said.

Interestingly enough, in 2019 more than half of the people who suffered from hypertension did not even know it and were living without any treatment.
