Who could have guessed this?

There is still a lot of debate among scientists about whether or not alcohol consumption in moderation is good or bad for the body.

Now according to Futurism, new research from the University of California claims that even drinking a single alcoholic beverage can immediately increase the risk of irregular heartbeats called atrial fibrillation (AF).

Atrial fibrillation commonly known as AF can result in fatal strokes and heart failure.

UCSF cardiology professor Gregory Marcus said, “Contrary to a common belief that atrial fibrillation is associated with heavy alcohol consumption, it appears that even one alcohol drink may be enough to increase the risk.”

It has always been known the heavy drinking can result in atrial fibrillation however, people are shocked to learn that a single drink alone can doubled you risks.

“The effects seem to be fairly linear: the more alcohol consumed, the higher the risk of an acute AF event,” Marcus later added. “These observations mirror what has been reported by patients for decades, but this is the first objective, measurable evidence that a modifiable exposure may acutely influence the chance that an AF episode will occur.”
