If someone experiences recurrent or severe gallstone-related issues, doctors may recommend surgical removal of the gallbladder, a procedure known as cholecystectomy. Fortunately, most people can lead a normal, healthy life without their gallbladder. After its removal, bile flows directly from the liver to the small intestine instead of being stored and concentrated in the gallbladder.
