Lean People Can Develop Fatty Liver Disease
Many people believe fatty liver disease only affects those who are overweight, but that’s not always true. A condition known as Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease can occur in individuals with a normal body weight. Researchers sometimes refer to this as “lean fatty liver disease.” Factors such as genetics, diet, insulin resistance, and metabolic abnormalities can contribute to fat buildup in the liver even when a person appears healthy and maintains a normal weight.
These lesser-known facts highlight why liver disorders can be difficult to recognize early and why routine medical checkups can play an important role in detecting problems before significant damage occurs.
