Situs Inversus Can Hide Serious Illness in Unexpected Places
People with situs inversus have major internal organs arranged as a mirror image of normal anatomy. While many live completely healthy lives, this unusual arrangement can complicate diagnosis. For example, appendicitis may cause pain on the left side instead of the right, and heart sounds are heard most clearly on the opposite side of the chest. This rare condition demonstrates how organ disorders and anatomical variations can challenge even experienced physicians.
