Amyloidosis Can Make Organs Turn Stiff

In amyloidosis, abnormal proteins fold incorrectly and accumulate in organs such as the heart, kidneys, liver, and nerves. These deposits can cause organs to become rigid and less functional over time. For example, when the heart is affected, it may struggle to relax and fill with blood properly, leading to heart failure symptoms even though the heart muscle itself may not appear enlarged.
