Some People Can Recognize Objects but Not Faces

A rare brain disorder called prosopagnosia, often known as “face blindness,” prevents people from recognizing familiar faces—even those of close family members or their own reflection in some cases.

Why it’s fascinating:
People with prosopagnosia often learn to identify others by voice, hairstyle, clothing, or mannerisms instead of facial features. Some individuals don’t realize they have the condition until adulthood because they’ve unconsciously developed coping strategies.
