Some people are essentially “allergic” to water—but not in the usual sense. Aquagenic urticaria is an extremely rare condition in which skin contact with water can trigger small hives and intense itching, regardless of whether the water is hot or cold. It isn’t generally considered a conventional allergy to the water molecule itself, and researchers still don’t completely understand its mechanism.
