A Sleep Disorder Can Cause People to Act Out Their Dreams

People with REM Sleep Behavior Disorder may physically act out vivid dreams while sleeping. They can talk, punch, kick, jump from bed, or even run during sleep.

Why it’s surprising: During normal REM sleep, the body is temporarily paralyzed to prevent movement. In this disorder, that protective paralysis fails. Researchers have also found that it can sometimes be an early warning sign of certain neurological conditions years before other symptoms appear.
