A Skin Disorder Can Make People Feel Like Their Skin Is Burning Without Any Visible Rash

A condition known as erythromelalgia causes episodes of intense burning pain, warmth, and redness, most commonly in the hands and feet.

Heat, exercise, or even wearing warm socks can trigger attacks. Some people experience severe pain despite having little or no visible skin change between episodes.

Interesting fact: Cooling can relieve symptoms, but applying ice directly or soaking the affected area in very cold water can actually damage the skin.
