Did You Know!

Some people can inherit enamel that doesn’t develop normally.

Brushing and flossing are extremely important, but not every enamel problem is caused by poor dental habits. Amelogenesis imperfecta refers to a group of rare inherited conditions that disrupt the normal formation of tooth enamel. Depending on the type, a person’s enamel may be unusually thin, soft, rough, discolored, or prone to wearing away. The condition can affect both baby and permanent teeth and may lead to sensitivity, cosmetic concerns, and greater difficulty protecting the teeth from everyday wear.
