Did You Know!
The Cornea Of Your Eye Has No Blood Vessels
Almost every tissue in your body relies on blood vessels to deliver oxygen and nutrients. But the cornea, the transparent outer surface of your eye, is different.
A healthy cornea contains no blood vessels at all. Instead, it receives oxygen primarily from the surrounding air and obtains nutrients from tears and fluid inside the eye.
This unusual arrangement helps keep the cornea completely transparent, allowing light to pass through so you can see clearly.
Even more surprising, the cornea contains an extremely high concentration of nerve endings, making it one of the most sensitive tissues in your entire body.
