Your Lungs Can “Remember” Past Exposures for Decades
Certain lung disorders can develop 20 to 50 years after exposure to harmful substances. For example, exposure to asbestos can eventually lead to Mesothelioma decades later. Even brief exposures to dusts, chemicals, or pollutants during a person’s younger years can contribute to lung disease much later in life. This long delay is one reason occupational lung diseases are often difficult to trace back to their original cause.
