🦴 Bones Can Literally Turn Into “Extra Skeletons” in Soft Tissue

A rare condition called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) causes muscles, tendons, and ligaments to slowly transform into bone.

Even minor injuries—like bumps or injections—can trigger new bone growth. Over time, the body essentially builds a second skeleton, locking joints in place and severely limiting movement. There is currently no cure, making it one of the most disabling connective tissue disorders known.
