Did You Know!
Your Bones Are Constantly “Self-Destructing” and Rebuilding — on Purpose
At any given moment, specialized cells are actively dissolving parts of your bones while other cells rebuild them. This process is called bone remodeling, and over about 10 years, you essentially replace most of your skeleton.
Why it’s wild:
- Your bones are never “solid” or finished
- This controlled destruction releases minerals like calcium into your blood on demand
- Stress, hormones, and even inflammation can change where your bones weaken or strengthen
This is why astronauts lose bone mass so quickly — gravity normally tells your bones where to stay strong.
