Muscles Can “Sense” Your Position Without You Thinking About It
Your muscles contain specialized sensors called muscle spindles that constantly tell your brain where your limbs are in space—even with your eyes closed. This system, known as proprioception, works automatically and is why you can touch your nose in the dark. With age or inactivity, this sensing ability weakens, increasing fall risk, which is why doctors stress balance and resistance exercises later in life.
