Did You Know!
Your Immune System Can Trigger a Heart Attack
Most people think heart attacks are caused simply by “clogged arteries.”
But in many cases, it’s actually your immune system that sets off the event.
Inside artery walls, fatty plaques can quietly build up over years (atherosclerosis). When the immune system detects inflammation in that plaque, it may trigger a sudden inflammatory response. That response can cause the plaque to rupture, forming a blood clot — which then blocks blood flow to the heart.
In other words, a heart attack is often not just a plumbing problem — it’s an inflammatory immune reaction.
