Did You Know!

It Can Dissolve Metal — But Not Itself

The hydrochloric acid in your stomach is so strong it can dissolve metals like zinc or iron. In fact, it has a pH similar to battery acid (around 1.5 to 3.5). Yet, your stomach doesn’t digest itself because it produces a special mucus layer that acts as a protective barrier. If this mucus thins — such as from stress, certain medications, or alcohol — it can lead to ulcers, which are literally self-inflicted burns from your own stomach acid.
