Some of Your Muscles Never Get “Stronger” — Only More Efficient
Not all muscles grow bigger with use. Postural and stabilizing muscles (especially deep core and neck muscles) adapt mainly by becoming more efficient, not larger.
These muscles:
- Improve nerve signaling rather than size
- Burn less energy as they improve
- Protect joints and the spine quietly in the background
This is why people can improve balance and reduce back pain without visible muscle growth—something many assume means exercise “isn’t working.”
