Human blood is composed of cells suspended in a liquid called plasma. The cellular components include red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), and platelets (thrombocytes). Plasma, the liquid portion, consists mainly of water but also contains proteins, electrolytes, hormones, gases, and waste products.
