The human heart is roughly the size of a fist and weighs about 250 to 350 grams (about 9 to 12 ounces) in adults. Despite its relatively small size, it is an incredibly powerful organ, capable of pumping around 5 to 7 liters (about 1.3 to 1.8 gallons) of blood throughout the body every minute at rest, and even more during periods of physical activity.
