Did You Know!
Your Kidneys Control Your Red Blood Cell Production
Most people think the kidneys only filter waste.
But your kidneys also act like oxygen sensors for your entire body.
When oxygen levels drop, the kidneys release a hormone called erythropoietin (EPO). This hormone tells your bone marrow to produce more red blood cells.
That means:
- Your kidneys directly influence stamina
- They impact energy levels
- They affect how well oxygen moves through your body
If kidney function declines (which becomes more common after age 50), red blood cell production can drop — contributing to fatigue.
