Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant that the body uses to deactivate highly reactive molecules known as free radicals which damage various cells within the body. Free radicals typically lead to inflammation in different areas of the body which can lead to heart disease, stroke, and dementia. Without vitamin C the body would not be able to withstand the effects of the free radicals.
Furthermore, vitamin C is also immune boosting. It helps the body create white blood cells to help fight off different types of infections. It also helps barrier the skin which makes it more difficult for different infections to enter the body. Vitamin C also helps white blood cells function optimally by protecting it during creation.
Vitamin C also plays a big role in Collagen synthesis. Collagen helps the body while aging and promotes a healthy skin. As the body gets older it produces a lower amount of Collagen which in-turn creates wrinkles. Having a healthy skin with vitamin C will help the body fight off diseases.
