The Bajau people of Southeast Asia, often called the “sea nomads,” have genetically larger spleens than average humans — up to 50% bigger.
This evolutionary trait lets them dive for up to 13 minutes without breathing, since their enlarged spleens release more oxygen-rich red blood cells underwater.
It’s one of the few proven cases of a human organ evolving in real time due to lifestyle.
