Did You Know!
Your Body Has Three Different Types of Cartilage — With Very Different Strength Levels
Rare Fact: Not all cartilage is the same. Humans have three types:
- Hyaline cartilage – Found in joints, ribs, nose (smooth and shock-absorbing)
- Elastic cartilage – Found in ears (flexible and bendable)
- Fibrocartilage – Found in spinal discs and knee meniscus (extremely tough)
Why this matters:
Fibrocartilage in your spinal discs can handle massive pressure loads — but once damaged, it’s particularly difficult to repair due to its dense structure and low cell turnover.
