The “Blue” Color of Veins Is an Optical Illusion
Veins aren’t actually blue. Blood is always red, but your skin scatters light in a way that reflects more blue wavelengths from deeper tissues. Your brain interprets this as blue veins. Surgeons know this trick of the eye doesn’t reflect the real color of the blood inside.
