Taste buds are not distributed evenly across the tongue; rather, different regions of the tongue are more sensitive to certain tastes. For example, the tip of the tongue is most sensitive to sweet flavors, while the sides are more sensitive to salty and sour tastes. Bitter tastes are detected at the back of the tongue.
