Did You Know!

You’re Taller in the Morning Than at Night

Most people don’t realize this — but you can lose up to half an inch (sometimes more) in height throughout the day.

Why?

Your spine is made up of 23 intervertebral discs that act like cushions between vertebrae. These discs are filled with fluid. As you go about your day — standing, walking, sitting — gravity compresses them.

By nighttime, the discs are slightly compressed.
When you sleep, they rehydrate and expand again.

This is one reason astronauts in zero gravity temporarily grow taller — there’s no compression on the spine.
