The nervous system is divided into two main components: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS includes the brain and spinal cord, which serve as the central processing units for incoming sensory information and outgoing motor commands. The PNS comprises all the nerves and ganglia outside the CNS, responsible for transmitting signals between the CNS and the rest of the body.
