Leprosy Isn’t Gone—and Armadillos Can Spread It
Most people think leprosy disappeared centuries ago, but it still exists today in parts of the U.S., particularly in the South. What’s stranger is that armadillos naturally carry the bacteria that cause leprosy. People who handle or eat armadillos in certain areas have actually contracted the disease this way.
