Some people with severe asthma can have “air trapping” that overinflates the lungs.
During episodes of Asthma, narrowed airways can prevent complete exhalation. Over time, stale air becomes trapped inside the lungs, causing them to remain partially inflated. This can flatten the diaphragm and make breathing increasingly inefficient, even when the person is resting.
