Some kidney disorders can affect hearing.
Certain inherited conditions, such as Alport syndrome, can damage both the kidneys and the structures involved in hearing because similar proteins are used in both tissues. Hearing loss can sometimes be an important clue to an underlying genetic kidney disorder.
