The United States will now start offering a third “booster” to prevent against the COVID-19 virus to those who have taken their second dose at least eight months prior.

According to IFLScience, Americans who took Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech shots will be allowed to get the 3rd shot starting the week of September 20th.

Those who took Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot vaccine will also likely need a vaccine health experts claim.

“The COVID-19 vaccines authorized in the United States continue to be remarkably effective in reducing the risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death, even against the widely circulating Delta variant,” federal health officials, including CDC Director Dr Rochelle Walensky, acting FDA Commissioner Dr Janet Woodcock, and White House chief medical advisor Dr Anthony Fauci said.

“The available data make very clear that protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection begins to decrease over time following the initial doses of vaccination, and in association with the dominance of the Delta variant, we are starting to see evidence of reduced protection against mild and moderate disease.”
