The human skeleton consists of 206 bones that provide support, protection, and structure to the body. Bones are composed of a combination of organic and inorganic materials. The organic component, mainly collagen, gives bones flexibility, while the inorganic component, primarily calcium and phosphate minerals, provides strength and rigidity. In addition to their structural role, bones also serve as reservoirs for minerals such as calcium and play a crucial role in the production of blood cells in the bone marrow.
