Some People Are Literally Allergic to Water
A rare skin condition called aquagenic urticaria causes people to develop itchy, red, raised welts when their skin comes into contact with water.
Surprisingly, the reaction can occur regardless of whether the water is hot or cold. Even rain, sweat, and tears may trigger symptoms.
The condition is extremely rare and isn’t necessarily a true allergy to water itself. Researchers are still investigating exactly what causes the reaction.
