Did You Know!
Your nose’s temperature may influence its antiviral defenses. Research suggests that cells lining the nasal passages can mount a stronger antiviral response at warmer temperatures. Because inhaling cold air can lower temperatures inside the nose, researchers have proposed a biological mechanism that may partly help explain why some respiratory viruses spread more successfully during colder months. This doesn’t mean that simply being cold automatically gives you a cold—the virus still has to infect you.
