This may seem strange, but maybe you should try it!

It’s been a long day at work and you can’t wait to hit the sheets and hopefully have a full night of sleep without tossing and turning. You want to get the rest your body is desperately craving but you aren’t sure you will actually get it because you have had difficulty sleeping.

New information suggests that it may be a good idea to eat a banana just before bed!

According to Ladders, Beth Greenwood from Live Strong has reported that eating a banana before bed may contribute a regulated heartbeat, muscle relaxation, and improved nerve function all thanks to the excess potassium.

“If potassium channels are defective or absent, so are slow waves – oscillations across the brain that indicate deep sleep,” Greenwood noted.

Furthermore, banana’s also have two natural sedatives known as tryptophan and magnesium.

“Magnesium has a positive impact on neurotransmitters that promote and play a role in supporting sound sleep, while a deficiency in magnesium may increase the potential for sleep disorders and interrupted rest,” Dietician Alison Stowell told Ladders.

Banana’s also contain different starches which aid in easy digestion and promote intestinal functions.

So, if you are someone who has difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep at night, a banana might be the answer for you.
