Loss of Smell Can Be One of the Earliest Signs of Certain Brain Disorders

Research suggests that changes in the brain regions responsible for processing odors may occur years before more recognizable symptoms like memory loss or movement problems appear. While loss of smell has many possible causes—including allergies, infections, or aging—it can occasionally serve as an early warning sign that warrants medical evaluation.
